Colleen Atwood discusses the part of her process for Alice in Wonderland, which came out on DVD/Blu-Ray June 1st. I believe this is part of the DVD special features. Hopefully there will be more as well.
Tim Burton's teaser trailer for Alice in Wonderland is finally here!! It was released on Trailer Addict today... and by the time I tried to post here was removed immediately by all officials involved. Poo.
But! I snagged a few photos before that happened hehe
So we've seen what Alice, played by Mia Wasikowska, is wearing in the film... or rather- the beginning of the film! Click here to see my previous scans also.
Now it looks like she gets a sort of something else once she enters wonderland and shrinks out of her original dress:
...and as far as the Mad Hatter goes... there's more of this:
I'm tempted to get a little scared but by the looks of it, it's all coming along beautifully on screen... of course. I don't know why I ever doubted.
And the costumes are OFFICIALLY the Official Ms. Colleen Atwood. She knows how to do everything right.
I will post the trailer the second they want people to actually see and enjoy it... until then we will have to look forward to March 5, 2010!
Today I got my copy of D23, the new quarterly magazine for Disney Fans. I was so excited for the Alice sneaky peak I heard about... however it was a total tease. A nice little article, it focused more on Burton's career than the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie. And the concept art that had been dangled in front of my nose was slightly disappointing.
Only one photo really gave any kind of imagery to the finished piece and lucky for us- it has some embroidery!
I can see the embroidery of a rabbit and a deer, both animals which make an appearance in the original book. I wonder if they're employing any kind of conceptual freedom regarding the characters in the Wonderland/New world being in Alice's real/original world first. I wish I could tell what that necklace was.
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter: Apparently this is an early costume test.
Now, all reason would say that Colleen is the costume designer on this, given their long history of collaboration, but there's still no official word. And while this looks alot like Colleen... something is still off about it to label it hers. But then, that's why it's just a test. What does anyone think about this look? Anyone hear official word?
Here are some great articles about the current nominees:
More of the same of Jaqueline Durran the greatest dress of the year. The part I liked best ends the debate on the one whole dress vs. seperate pieces issue once and for all :
'It also had to survive a secret rendezvous on a bookshelf!
Well, we had lots of the gowns. The fabric was so fine that the bodices kept tearing. We had three or four skirts and 10 bodices and when they tore, we would quickly repair them. But it only took about a day to shoot that scene.- Jacqueline Durran '
... and one of them is being auctioned off here.(Be sure to scroll down to see a good clip of the film showing the dress.)
And a great article that reveals tidbits into the genius that is Colleen Atwood.
How about Alan Rickman and Timothy Spall's characters? They really are quite comical and cartoony.
Alan [Judge Turpin] was the slightly grubby man-about-town. His clothes have two or three color screens on the fabrics that gave him an oily, slick feeling. Alan and Timothy [Beadle Bamford] are the Romantics, that's what we called them. They are actually a bit more Georgian, the period before the Victorian era, a bit more decadent and flowery.
When people have a great moment in their lives, they tend to stay in that moment stylistically. - Colleen Atwood
(I love how she thinks about that stuff!)
Watch the video here which Alan Rickman talks about his ideas for keeping the guy dirty.
I'm belated with this post but here finally I am posting shots of the new Sweeney Todd trailer. The Designer is the Wonderful Amazing Incredible and Most Talented Colleen Atwood. My absolute favoritest of favorites.
Here is the trailer. I think I've watched it 25 times so far.
